Caring For Your StingRay Rod

We guarantee your new StingRay fishing rod will provide you with years of trouble-free enjoyment.  You can significantly increase its performance by giving it good care and exercising common sense. Follow the recommendations below to maximize the enjoyment of your new rod.

  • Always choose the right rod for your type of fishing. Pay attention to the line rating of the rod and do not exceed its recommended rating.

  • Do not use the rod in a situation that is beyond its capability as it may damage the rod or cause injury.

  • Do not overstress the rod by tugging or “high sticking” in an attempt to free a snag.

  • Do not attempt to lift a heavy fish by just using the rod. It can potentially exceed its design and result in damage to the rod and cause injury.

  • Do not place your hands above the handle while fighting or landing a fish. Allow the rod to distribute the pressure exerted from a fish over the entire length of the rod by keeping your hands within the handle area.

  • Be careful when transporting your gear.  Many rods that break while fishing actually break due to damage caused to the rod during transportation.

  • Wash and rinse your rod with a mild soap (such as dishwashing soap) and plenty of fresh water after each use. When fishing multiple days, rinse your rod daily.

  • Do not store your rod wet. Let it dry thoroughly before storing.

  • Keep your rod away from extreme heat such as car trunks or boat engine compartments. Extreme heat can eventually warp or damage the rod’s components.

  • Always store your rod in a vertical position or in horizontal racks with multiple supports.  Never store the rod in a way that it puts pressure on the blank.

  • Lubricate your rod and reel frequently. This will help your rod (and reel) operate at peak performance. A good lubricant also provides a protective barrier against UV light and stops corrosion. We recommend StingRay Rod and Reel Care as the lubricant of choice.

  • Clean all the components of your rod thoroughly with a mild soap and water at least once a season.
